Old Sora Maria and Arcangelo's Restauran

Everything as it was and will be'

Ranked among the best restaurants of the region, Sora Maria & Arcangelo's Restaurant stands out for having always preserved, over the years, the elements of the context from which it has its origin.

The -Old Sora Maria and Arcangelo's Restauran was born in the context of Olevano Romano as redevelopment of old barns. Interventions over the years have always been executed with the ambition to preserve the original context elements actively, as you can see from the genuine earthen brick vaults of the main hall, the irregular floor made also of earthen tiles, or even from the tuff rocks that assemble the walls.

A strong link between Food, Art and Territory

Alle pareti del ristorante pendono discretamente dipinti e litografie di vari artisti dell’ottocento danese e tedesco, come testimoni del filo rosso che legava i nostri territori alle vivaci esperienze artistiche dei Grand Tour in Italia.

Paintings and lithographs by various Danish and German artists of the 19th century discretely hang on the walls of the restaurant, as witnesses of the red thread that tied our territories to the bright artistic experiences of the Grand Tour in Italy. The partition of the restaurant in several rooms gives the possibility to gather at the table for any occasion: beyond the main hall, other environments offer the opportunity to spend some quality time with our cuisine in a warm and quiet atmosphere, even for banquets from 12 to 18 people.

The Territory

In the most popular tourist routes

Olevano has a tangibly ancient origin: the Cyclopian masonry surrounding the medieval kasbah are the most striking evidence of it and take us back to the 5th century B.C.

After the Romanization of the territory around the 1st century A.C., the organization of the Olevano lands was manly agricultural and revolved around the real farms of the time: the villas. After the slow Romans decline, for Olevano followed a confused period, during which there was a fortification and a first urbanization.

Olevano Olevano became a feud in the 13th century. Since then, its experiences are often interlaced with those of influential Roman families: Colonna, Orsini and Borghese. However, the Colonna family directed the construction of the castle and affected the most the town urban organization, kept essentially unchanged until the middle of the 19th century.

The Geography

Olevano Olevano is located in the eastern side of the Roman province. Behind the Monti Simbruini its hilly territory overlooks a vast landscape, casting its gaze through a corridor between the mountains that, on a clear day, also allows the sight of Anzio sea.

Its hills have been a captivating place of inspiration for many Romantic artists, but more pragmatically they have always been the favorite places for agriculture and grazing. The crops that are more taken care of from these lands are, for centuries, the wine and the olive growing.

The territory of Olevanotogether with the territories of Piglio and Affile, represent the unique terroir of the vine CesaneseThe wine production involves a number of agriculture enterprises and is one of the main wealth of the town.

The other productive activities are mainly hand-crafted and commercial. A large part of the town's economin-productive performance is positively influenced by the closeness of Rome (about 50 km).
